Digital accessibility

Accessible websites, documents, learning platforms, media and technology across the university.

Home / Digital accessibility

Design accessibly

Course and service owners use meaningful headings, keyboard access, contrast, captions, transcripts, alt text and readable documents.

Report a barrier

Students and employees can report a blocked task with the page, course, device, assistive technology and deadline so staff can triage it.

Improve the system

Accessibility is reviewed in procurement, course design, events, software updates and quality assurance—not only after a complaint.

Accessible by default

Course and service owners are expected to use real headings, keyboard access, sufficient contrast, captions, transcripts, alt text and readable documents from the start. The library and the teaching centre help faculty build materials that way rather than remediate them later.

When something blocks you

A student or employee can report a blocked task — the page or course, the device and assistive technology, and the deadline — and staff triage it with a workaround while the underlying fix is made. Accessibility is checked when software is bought and when courses are designed, not only after a complaint.

In and around Porter Falls

The Technology Help Desk is on the first floor of the Jarvis Technology Center, next to the open computer labs and the cyber range. One student identity signs into MyPorter, the learning environment, campus Wi-Fi, printing and the library, and the desk is the place to start when any of them will not.

The practical details

Standard: WCAG 2.1 AA for university sites and course materials. Report a barrier: Include the page, course, device and deadline. Reviewed in: Procurement, course design, events, software updates. These specifics can shift from term to term, so confirm anything time-sensitive — a deadline, an appointment, an eligibility rule — before you count on it.

If you have a question

This is handled by Technology Help Desk (Jarvis Technology Center, Room 105). Call (715) 555-0120 or email helpdesk@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or use MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If another office turns out to own the question, they will pass it along rather than send you back to the beginning.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
