What this site collects

Nothing. There is no analytics script, no tracking pixel, and no cookie or local storage set by this site. One thing does load from elsewhere: the page fonts, from Google Fonts. Loading a font from Google's servers means Google's server sees a request from your browser, the same as it would for any other site using a Google-hosted font. The photographs are saved on this site's own server and load from here, not from a third party, even though they originally came from the Library of Congress.

The forms

The pretend forms — the application, the MyPorter login, and similar — are inert. They do not submit anywhere. Anything typed into them stays in your browser and disappears when you close the tab.

Poly, the assistant

One feature is real: Poly, the chat assistant. If you open it and send a message, your question and a few relevant pages of this site are sent to an AI model provider to generate a grounded answer. Your questions are not logged. Don’t type anything sensitive into it.

If your questions show you’re interested in a program, visiting, cost, or applying, Poly may offer a short optional form. Only an email is required; you may also add a name, phone number, the program you care about, whether you’re a prospective student, transfer, graduate applicant or family member, and roughly when you’d start. Whatever you choose to enter — plus the page you were on and a short excerpt of the chat — is emailed to the site’s operator so a human can follow up. The same applies to the beta-access request form. A salted hash of your IP plus a timestamp is kept briefly to limit abuse; nothing else is stored, and none of it is sold or shared.

Why this page exists

Because a university website has a privacy page, and a parody of one that skipped it would be missing something. The joke is more accurate when the plumbing is.
