One place to start
The Porter Student Help Desk in Founders Union 118 is the front door when you do not know which office you need. It routes questions about registration, billing, financial aid, technology, housing, dining, ID cards, and parking, and it can usually either answer on the spot or walk you to the right person. Reach it at (715) 555–0120 or help@uwporterfalls.edu, or sign in to MyPorter to message any office and book most appointments.
If you are a prospective or new student, the Discover your path pages lay out what to do in order for your situation.
Academic support
Every enrolled student can use academic advising, peer tutoring and Supplemental Instruction, the writing center, academic coaching, and the accessibility office for disability accommodations — at no charge. The First-Year Experience and the Student Success Center catch students early when a term starts to slip; responding to an early-alert email is one of the highest-value things you can do.
Health, wellness, and basic needs
The student health center and counseling center are prepaid through the health fee. The campus food pantry is free to any enrolled student with no application, and the student emergency fund covers a short-term crisis. The student legal services office gives free consultations on leases, citations, and consumer problems. A financial-wellness coach will build a budget with you. National backups you can use anytime: the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), and findhelp.org for local food, housing, and financial assistance by ZIP code.
Identity, community, and advocacy
Identity-based centers — multicultural, LGBTQIA+, military and veteran, first-generation, and international — offer community, mentoring, and staff who will advocate for you. The Student Ombuds is a neutral, confidential place to think through a conflict or a process. Report identity-based harm through bias reporting, and sex- or gender-based misconduct through the Title IX office.
When you need help now
For immediate danger call 911. Campus Safety is staffed 24 hours at (715) 555–0191. The 24-hour Student Support Line is (715) 555–0117 and is answered by licensed counselors. If you are worried about another student, contact the Dean of Students office — they can do a welfare check and connect the student with support.
