Starting a new organization
Any five students can petition Student Government for recognition. Recognized organizations get access to activity fee funding, meeting space, and a table at the fall involvement fair. A petition is reviewed at the next scheduled senate meeting, typically within two to three weeks, and a faculty or staff advisor willing to be listed as a contact is required before funding is released, though not before the club itself is recognized.

The Ironclad Robotics Club qualified for its national competition for the first time, the kind of result student organizations point to when petitioning the activity-fee committee for a larger annual budget the following year — recognition and funding at Porter are explicitly tied to a club's own track record, not just its existence.
