First: activate your account
Use the activation code in your admission letter to create your Porter account, university email, and multi-factor authentication. From that point, the Porter email is the official channel — admissions, financial aid, housing, orientation, and advising all reach you there, so check it regularly. Then submit your enrollment deposit by the stated date to confirm your spot and unlock the housing and orientation systems.
Sort the money early
File or confirm the FAFSA (school code 009399) if you have not. Review your financial aid offer with net price in mind — charges minus grants and scholarships only. Accept the aid you need, decline what you do not, set up a payment plan through the Bursar if that helps, and note the tuition due date. If the numbers do not work, contact Financial Aid now; a professional-judgment appeal or additional scholarship search has time to matter in the spring and summer, not in August.
Placement, records, and health forms
Complete math placement (and writing or language placement where your program requires it) so you can be advised into the right first courses. Send final official transcripts and any AP/IB/CLEP or dual-enrollment scores. Submit immunization records through the student health portal — an unmet requirement becomes a hold that blocks your second-term registration. If you have a disability, contact the accessibility office over the summer so accommodations are in place for day one.
Register, arrive, and settle in
Register for orientation, where you will meet an adviser, build your first schedule, and learn the campus. Sign the housing contract and complete roommate and dining-plan preferences if you are living on campus (contract date affects room-selection priority). Choose a move-in appointment. Read the summer common book. Consider a summer job for work habits and a cushion. You do not need to pre-study your fall courses or arrive with a four-year plan — advising and orientation are built for that.
