Library access for alumni

What Porter graduates can still use at Halvorsen Library after they leave.

Home / Library access for alumni

What's included

Alumni can walk in, get a borrower card, check out books, and use the building like any community member. A subset of research databases — business directories, some journal packages, ancestry and news archives — is licensed for off-campus alumni use through the alumni portal.

What isn't

Most big journal and database subscriptions are priced for current students and faculty only; the vendor licenses don't allow alumni remote access. For those, alumni use the on-campus workstations or request specific articles through interlibrary loan.

In and around Porter Falls

The UW–Porter Falls Foundation shares the Depot with admissions, which is deliberate: the people who fund scholarships and the students who receive them use the same front door. Most gifts to Porter are small, local and recurring.

The practical details

In person: A courtesy borrower card for physical books, study space, and the public computers. Remotely: A curated set of databases licensed for alumni access; most subscription databases are on-campus only by license. Also: Interlibrary loan for a small fee, and research help by email or appointment. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.

If you have a question

The office behind this is UW–Porter Falls Foundation & Alumni Relations (Welcome Center at the Depot). Call (715) 555–0280 or email foundation@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
