Campus Climate Survey
A confidential, campus-wide survey run every other spring to find out how students, faculty and staff actually experience Porter day to day.
What it measures
The survey asks about sense of belonging, experiences of bias or discrimination, comfort reporting a concern, and satisfaction with specific offices and spaces — not just overall "how do you feel about Porter." Questions are grouped so results can be compared across colleges, class years, and identity groups without identifying an individual respondent.
Who takes it, and how often
All enrolled students, faculty and staff are invited every other spring; participation is voluntary and responses are confidential, collected and reported through a third-party survey platform so no individual response is traceable to campus data systems. Response rate, not just results, gets reported publicly — a low turnout year is flagged as a limitation rather than quietly published as if it were representative.
What happens to the results
A summary report goes to the chancellor’s cabinet, the shared governance bodies, and the public within a semester of the survey closing. Specific offices are expected to respond in writing to findings that concern them directly — a climate item flagging a specific building or service triggers a response from whoever runs it, not just a general acknowledgment.
If you do not want to wait two years
The bias incident reporting process and the Title IX office both handle individual concerns as they happen; the climate survey is a periodic temperature check on the whole campus, not a substitute for reporting something specific now.
