Career coaching appointments

What to bring, what a coach can help with, and how to get useful feedback at any stage.

Home / Career coaching appointments

You do not need to be job-ready

Career appointments are for choosing a direction as much as applying for a position. Bring uncertainty: comparing fields, finding the first relevant experience, explaining a change of major, or deciding whether graduate school belongs in the plan. Coaches work with first-year students and alumni as well as graduating seniors.

Choose the right appointment

Quick reviews cover one document or a narrow question. Standard appointments allow time for exploration, search strategy, portfolios, interview practice, salary research, or an offer decision. Mock interviews are scheduled separately so the coach can use a real position description and give structured feedback.

Bring something concrete

For a search appointment, bring two listings that interest you. For a résumé review, bring the draft and the kind of role it should target. For exploration, bring the courses, projects, and tasks you have liked or disliked. Specific material produces next actions instead of general encouragement.

After the meeting

Write down the three actions you agreed on, complete the smallest within 48 hours, and book the follow-up before a deadline forces the issue. Career development works best as a sequence of short revisions, not a single high-stakes visit the week before graduation.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, service, phone number, policy, and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
