Departments revise majors regularly. Catalog rights mean a course added or dropped from the major after you started doesn't move your goalposts — you finish under the requirements you began with, shown in your degree audit as your catalog year.
When it resets
A gap in enrollment beyond the allowed window puts you on the current catalog at readmission. You may also elect a newer catalog on purpose — sometimes a revised major is easier or better aligned — but it's all-or-nothing for that program, not a menu. Your advisor files the change.
