Start a conversation
Describe the community need, timeline, learners involved, available resources and what a useful outcome would look like.
Shape the project
Staff connect partners with faculty and students while clarifying scope, consent, accessibility, data use and decision rights.
Share outcomes
Projects close with a public-friendly summary, partner feedback and a plan for maintaining what the work created.
Start the conversation
A partner describes the need, the timeline, which learners might be involved, what resources exist and what a useful result looks like. Staff then connect the partner with faculty and students and set scope, consent, accessibility, data use and who decides what.
After the project
Engagements close with a summary written for a general audience, the partner’s feedback, and a plan for maintaining whatever the work produced — a dataset, a process, a design — once the students have moved on.
In and around Porter Falls
Research at Porter is applied and partner-driven: a Valley Health quality project, a DNR study on the Porter River, a manufacturing-process fix for a county employer. The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs in Millwright Hall handles the review, the training records and the sponsored-project paperwork so the work can start on time.
The practical details
Front door: One intake form, one staff contact. Good fit: Defined need, a timeline, a contact who can decide. Close-out: Public summary plus a sustainability plan. These specifics can shift from term to term, so confirm anything time-sensitive — a deadline, an appointment, an eligibility rule — before you count on it.
If you have a question
This is handled by Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (Millwright Hall, Room 340). Call (715) 555-0230 or email research@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or use MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If another office turns out to own the question, they will pass it along rather than send you back to the beginning.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
