Home / Course registration

Windows and why they exist

Registration opens in staggered windows by class standing (plus required early access for student-athletes and some accommodation cases) specifically so a graduating senior is not competing with a first-year student for the one remaining seat in a required capstone.

Waitlists and permission numbers

Most high-demand courses run an automatic waitlist that offers a seat in order as one opens, usually by email with a short window to accept; a permission number to override a prerequisite or a full section comes from the teaching department, not the Registrar, because only the department can judge whether the override is reasonable.

Fixing a schedule after the fact

Add and drop deadlines, the last day to switch a section without a fee, and the point at which a withdrawal starts affecting a transcript are all on the academic calendar; an adviser can usually solve a scheduling conflict with a substitution or an overload request before either deadline passes.

The practical details

Registration windows: Open by class standing, earliest for seniors and athletes. Waitlists: Automatic; seats offered in order as they open. Permission numbers: Issued by the department, not the Registrar. These specifics can change from year to year, so confirm anything time-sensitive directly with the office below before you rely on it.

If you have a question

This is handled by Office of the Registrar (Millwright Hall, Room 100). Call (715) 555–0160 or email registrar@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
