The roles and why it is easy to get hired
University Dining is the largest single student employer on campus and hires continuously, so it is often the fastest way into a campus job with no experience. Roles include line service and food prep in The Forge, cashiering and the retail stations in Ironworks, barista work at the cafés, catering setup and service for events (often the best-paid because of event premiums and tips), dish room, receiving and stockroom, and the sustainability crew handling compost and the reusable-container program. Scheduling around classes
You give your class schedule and your availability each term, and managers build around it — this is normal and expected, not a favor. Shifts run early morning through late evening and on weekends, so there is almost always something that fits between classes. Most students work 8–12 hours a week during the semester (the on-campus cap is usually 20 during terms, more over breaks), and you can pick up or drop shifts through a swap board. Catering shifts are more variable but you sign up for the ones you want.
