About the event
This is the first of this year’s monthly noon career webinars, which Alumni Relations runs with Career Services. Jolene Brandvold, director of Career Services, has spent more than twenty years on the employer side of the table. She will cover what a flat budget year usually means in practice, which numbers to bring and where to find them, how to ask for something other than salary when salary really is frozen, and the email to send afterward.
She will spend the last fifteen minutes on questions. Send them in advance on the registration form if you would rather your manager not hear you ask.
The session is aimed at alumni from one to fifteen years out, but anyone is welcome, including seniors who are about to negotiate a first offer. Brandvold’s view is that the first offer is where the habit starts.

Location and access
The webinar has live captions, and the recording is captioned too. You can join by browser or phone, and you do not need a camera or a microphone. If you need an interpreter or another accommodation, ask Alumni Relations by Monday, October 19.
Registration
Free. Register through MyPorter with your alumni account or by calling the office. Everyone who registers gets the recording, including people who do not show up, and that is most people. Alumni can also book up to three free one-on-one sessions a year through alumni career coaching.
Contact and related events
The next webinar, on November 19, is a panel of three alumni managers on going from engineer to manager without losing your evenings. Every chapter event and webinar for the year is on the alumni events calendar. In person, the Lake City chapter’s hospital-district happy hour is a week later, on October 29.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This webinar, its presenter and its advice are invented for a fictional alumni office; there is no session to join, and nothing here is real salary-negotiation advice.
