About the event
Student Health brings the vaccine to where people already are, rather than asking everyone to walk to North Campus. In midterms week that means the library. Bring your Porter Card and, if you have one, your insurance card. The shot is billed to insurance when possible and never to you. The whole thing takes about ten minutes, including the five you sit afterward.
The clinic is most important for students in clinical placements, anyone living in a residence hall, and anyone with asthma, diabetes or another chronic condition. Employees over 65 can ask for the high-dose formulation. Nursing students working the clinic under supervision count the hours toward their community health rotation. They are good at it, and they will tell you so.
Schedule
This is one of four fall clinics. The others are listed below.
| Time | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Tue, Oct 20, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. | This clinic | Halvorsen Library, Level 1 |
| Thu, Oct 29, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. | Clinic | Health Sciences Center lobby |
| Wed, Nov 4, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. | Clinic | Founders Union, main level |
| Through November | By appointment | Health & Counseling Center, North Campus |
Location and access
The table is set up beside the Library Café on Level 1 of Halvorsen Library, which is step-free from the main entrance. A screened chair is available if you would rather not roll up a sleeve in front of the periodicals. If you are anxious about needles, tell the nurse at check-in. You can lie down, and nobody will make a thing of it.
Registration
No appointment and no registration. Walk in any time during the clinic. If you cannot make any of the four dates, book a shot through MyPorter at the Student Health clinic. More detail is on flu shot clinics.
Contact and related events
Questions go to Student Health. If midterms are the bigger problem this week, Let’s Talk drop-in counseling needs no appointment. The next wellness event on the calendar is the campus blood drive, November 17–18.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This clinic, its dates and its nurses are invented, and no vaccine is offered here. Talk to a real health provider about a real flu shot.
