About the event
The Wind Symphony has 61 players this fall, from every college. Last year 41% of them came from engineering or technology programs, and only 9% were music majors or minors. Anton Yoon, professor of practice in instrumental performance and conducting, leads them.
The winter concert is the lightest of the year. The program has marches, including one by a Porter Falls bandmaster from the 1920s, a carol medley the band arranged in sections, and a new transcription by a student in the Introduction to Music Technology class. At intermission someone wins the raffle and conducts the band through “Sleigh Ride.” Raffle tickets are $2, the proceeds go to the ensemble travel fund, and past winners include a seven-year-old and a dean.

Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This concert, its program, its raffle and its guest conductors are invented; there is no band, no hall and no “Sleigh Ride” to conduct.
