Applying to graduate

The step students forget: you must formally apply for your degree, a term or more ahead, for it to be awarded.

Home / Applying to graduate

Why it's required

Completing your requirements doesn't award the degree automatically. The application tells the Registrar to run a final audit, confirm every requirement is met or in progress, order your diploma, and add you to the commencement list. Miss the deadline and your degree posts a term late.

After you apply

You'll get an audit result showing anything outstanding — a missing credit, an unfulfilled general-education slot — with time to fix it. Confirm the name and mailing address on file are how you want them on the diploma. Applying to graduate is separate from registering for commencement, though one form usually offers both.

In and around Porter Falls

The Porter Student Help Desk in Founders Union 118 is the single place to start when it is not obvious which office owns a question.

The practical details

When: By the published deadline in the term before you finish — often two terms ahead for spring. How: A graduation application in the student portal, with a small one-time fee. Triggers: A final degree audit, diploma order, and your name in the commencement program. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.

If you have a question

The office behind this is Porter Student Help Desk (Founders Union, Room 118). Call (715) 555–0120 or email help@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
