Why this team is in the Hall of Fame

The only Porter team to reach the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen, finishing 27-4 and winning the program's first and only WCAC tournament title.

The season

1994 Men's Basketball Team played its title 1993–94 season. Inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

After Porter

Six players from the roster later returned to campus for the team's 25th-anniversary reunion, which raised money for the current program's travel budget.

In their own words

“Nobody outside the Valley thought we belonged there. That was kind of the point.”

— team captain, at the 2019 induction ceremony

What current Ironclads can take from this

Current Porter basketball players still hear about this season, usually as an example that a roster without a single future professional can still win the whole thing on chemistry and depth. The team's own account of the run — kept in the athletics department's archive — is used in a leadership talk to the current roster most preseasons.

Common questions

How does someone get nominated? Anyone can nominate a candidate through the athletics site; athletes become eligible ten years after their last season, while coaches and teams are considered on their own timeline.

Where is this inductee recognized on campus? Every inductee is added to the physical Hall of Fame display in the Ironhouse Athletic Center concourse with a short citation, alongside a profile on the athletics site for their induction year.
