Why Hal is in the Hall of Fame

Founding head coach of the baseball program, building it from a club sport into a conference contender over 23 seasons and 400 career wins.

Playing (or coaching) days

Hal Dunmore was head coach in Baseball at UW–Porter Falls from 1975–1998. Inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.

After Porter

Dunmore's name is on the field itself; the program dedicated it the year after his final season.

In their own words

“We didn't have a real field for the first eight years. We had a mowed outfield and a lot of stubbornness.”

— Hal Dunmore, at the 2011 induction ceremony

What current Ironclads can take from this

Current Porter coaches point to Dunmore's tenure as a case study in what a long program build actually looks like: it rarely comes from one standout class, but from a coach who stays long enough to keep raising the floor. The Baseball program still runs parts of the culture Dunmore put in place.

Common questions

How does someone get nominated? Anyone can nominate a candidate through the athletics site; athletes become eligible ten years after their last season, while coaches and teams are considered on their own timeline.

Where is this inductee recognized on campus? Every inductee is added to the physical Hall of Fame display in the Ironhouse Athletic Center concourse with a short citation, alongside a profile on the athletics site for their induction year.

Fictional information
