International students arrive a week early for immigration document check-in, a required visa status review, help opening a bank account and enrolling in health insurance, and a shared airport pickup coordinated from the Cities.
The first semester
Every new international student is paired with a continuing student mentor, and Global Education runs monthly cultural adjustment sessions covering everything from the academic honesty expectations in a US classroom to how a Wesconsin winter actually works.
In and around Porter Falls
For a campus this size Porter both sends and receives a steady stream of students internationally. The Global Education Office in Founders Union runs the advising, the risk review and the arrival and re-entry programming.
The practical details
When: The week before general New Student Orientation. Includes: Airport pickup, visa/immigration check-in, banking, health insurance. Ongoing: A first-semester peer mentor pairing. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
