Who this is for
You do not need a business major, a finished product, or a co-founder. The entrepreneurship program works with students who have a rough idea and want to find out if it is real — a product, a service, a nonprofit, a campus solution, a side project that might be more. It is run out of a center with staff advisors, faculty affiliates from across the colleges, and a network of alumni founders and mentors, and it treats "I tested this and it does not work" as a successful outcome that cost you a semester instead of your savings.
The programs
A sequence, not a single class: discovery workshops on framing a problem, interviewing potential users, and sizing a market before you build anything; a validation program where teams run structured experiments on their assumptions with a small stipend; access to the Forge makerspace and design mentors for prototyping; a student venture incubator with space, coaching, and a cohort; and legal, accounting, and IP clinics staffed by professionals and supervised students. A minor and several courses in entrepreneurship are open to any major and give academic credit for this work.
The money
Pitch competitions run through the year with real prize money, from small idea-stage awards to a larger annual final. Validation and prototype micro-grants (a few hundred to a few thousand dollars) are available on a rolling basis to move a specific experiment forward. A student venture fund makes larger seed investments in teams that have shown traction. None of it requires giving up equity to the university, and losing a pitch competition still gets you the judges' feedback and often a mentor.
Getting started
Come to an open workshop or book a first meeting with a center advisor with nothing but the idea and a willingness to have it questioned. The first ask is almost always "go talk to ten people who would use this and come back" — cheap, fast, and the step most people skip. From there the advisor maps you to the right program, grant, and mentor.
