Home / Library research help

Start with a librarian

A subject librarian helps turn a broad question into keywords, source types, search strategy and a manageable research plan.

Access materials

Students use journals, ebooks, media, course reserves, interlibrary loan and open educational resources from the library search.

Use sources responsibly

Citation, copyright, data management, source evaluation and accessible publishing are part of research support—not last-minute cleanup.

Start with a librarian

A thirty-minute consultation turns a broad topic into keywords, the right kinds of sources, a search strategy and a plan that fits the assignment’s deadline. Subject librarians are assigned by college and hold dedicated hours during the semester.

Using sources well

Citation, copyright, data management, source evaluation and accessible formatting are treated as part of research from the start, not a clean-up step the night before. Interlibrary loan and open educational resources fill the gaps in Porter’s own collection.

In and around Porter Falls

The academic core — the Registrar, the catalog, the class schedule — is coordinated from Millwright Hall and the Halvorsen Library. A course in the catalog is a description of intent; the live schedule each term is where sections, rooms, instructors and seats actually appear.

The practical details

Research consultations: 30–60 minutes with a subject librarian. Interlibrary loan: Articles in 1–2 days, books in about a week. Course reserves: Physical and electronic, set by the instructor. These specifics can shift from term to term, so confirm anything time-sensitive — a deadline, an appointment, an eligibility rule — before you count on it.

If you have a question

This is handled by Office of the Registrar (Millwright Hall, Room 100). Call (715) 555-0160 or email registrar@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or use MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If another office turns out to own the question, they will pass it along rather than send you back to the beginning.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
