Student Cybersecurity Clinic Will Do Free Security Reviews for Local Nonprofits
Supervised students in the new clinic will assess small organizations that cannot afford commercial security consulting.
The College of Computing & Information Sciences has opened a cybersecurity clinic in which upper-level students, supervised by faculty and a licensed practitioner, perform basic security assessments for regional nonprofits, clinics, and small units of local government at no charge.
A typical engagement runs a semester: students inventory the client’s systems and data, run a vulnerability scan, review password and backup practices, deliver a written report in plain language, and walk the client’s staff through the top three fixes. The clinic does not do penetration testing or incident response.

The clinic is modeled on the law-school clinic idea and carries course credit. It is booked through the spring; organizations can join the waitlist through the college’s community-engagement office.
