Regents Hold Resident Tuition at $9,140 for 2025–26, the First Freeze in Five Years

The total bill for a Wesconsin resident living on campus still rises about 1.5 percent, driven by housing, dining and a small fee increase.

The UW System Board of Regents voted on Thursday to hold resident undergraduate tuition at UW–Porter Falls at $9,140 for 2025–26. It is the first year without a tuition increase since 2020–21. Non-resident tuition goes up 3 percent. Segregated fees, housing and meal plans, which are set on campus and approved alongside tuition, will rise.

Annual rate2024–252025–26Change
Tuition, Wesconsin resident$9,140$9,140—
Tuition, non-resident$16,860$17,360+$500
Segregated fees$1,351$1,382+$31
Housing, double room$5,560$5,720+$160
Meal plan, standard$4,010$4,130+$120
Total, resident on campus (with books est.)$20,881$21,192+$311

The student-majority segregated fee committee decided in December how to spend the $31 fee increase: $14 for the Porter Loop under the new five-year city–county agreement, $10 for a second evening shift at the food pantry and in student support, and $7 for replacement cardio equipment at the Forge Recreation Center.

Most of the housing and dining increase follows utility and food prices. It also pays for the first year of a bathroom renovation cycle in the older residence halls, which will start with Heritage Hall.

“Holding tuition flat is good news and I’m glad to deliver it. But a family pays the whole bill, so we print the whole bill. It goes up $311, and here is every dollar of it.”

Financial Aid Director Mervin Aaby said that the state grant and the university’s own need-based aid will both rise next year, so most aided students should see their net price stay about the same. Families whose finances have changed are encouraged to contact the aid office before May 1.

Full rate tables, including program fees, are on the tuition and cost of attendance pages. How the regents set rates is explained on Board of Regents and UW System, and grants and loans start at financial aid.

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. These tuition rates, fees and the regents’ vote are invented and are not the price of any real university.
