Orientation leaders

Peer guides who help new students find answers, people and a first-week rhythm.

Home / Orientation leaders

The role

Orientation leaders complete training in inclusion, referral boundaries, emergency response, student privacy and the practical details of Porter systems.

What they do

They lead small groups, model questions for advisers, explain campus routines and notice when a student may need a warm handoff.

Stay connected

Leaders host first-six-weeks check-ins and connect students to organizations, tutoring, events, commuting support and residence communities.

Peers, not staff

Orientation leaders are current Porter students who lead small groups, model how to ask an adviser a question, explain campus routines and notice when a new student needs a warm handoff to a professional. They are trained on where their role ends.

Why the model works

New students take advice about failing a quiz or missing home more easily from someone a year ahead of them. Leaders stay connected through the first six weeks and route students to organisations, tutoring, commuting support and residence communities.

In and around Porter Falls

Student life at Porter is organised out of Founders Union, the building students call the campus living room, and it is busiest in the first six weeks of fall when First Forge, the involvement fair and the orientation-leader check-ins all overlap. The Dean of Students Office is on the second floor.

The practical details

Who: Current students, hired and paid, trained each spring. Training: Inclusion, referral limits, emergency response, privacy. Commitment: Summer sessions plus first-six-weeks check-ins. These specifics can shift from term to term, so confirm anything time-sensitive — a deadline, an appointment, an eligibility rule — before you count on it.

If you have a question

This is handled by Dean of Students Office (Founders Union, Room 200). Call (715) 555-0182 or email deanofstudents@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or use MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If another office turns out to own the question, they will pass it along rather than send you back to the beginning.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
