About the course
This course covers the safety topics that general-industry supervisors are expected to know, organized around the federal workplace standards for general industry. It includes walking and working surfaces, exit routes and fire prevention, electrical hazards, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, powered industrial trucks, an introduction to confined spaces, noise, ergonomics, bloodborne pathogens, and injury recordkeeping.
Please read this before you register. UW–Porter Falls is not an authorized federal outreach-training provider, and this course does not issue a federal outreach-training completion card. Completers receive a Porter certificate of completion and 3.0 CEUs. If your employer, a contract or a job site requires the federal card, take an authorized course instead. We will tell you that on the phone too. Employers choose this course because it is longer on practice: half of each afternoon is a hazard walk in a working shop on campus.
Who should enroll
- Production and warehouse supervisors
- Safety committee members and people newly responsible for safety at a small employer
- HR and operations staff who handle injury records
No prerequisites. Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants for the hazard walks. Hard hats, glasses and hearing protection are provided.

Employer pricing and registration
The list fee is $725 per person. Professional Education invoices employers directly on net-30 terms and provides the completion letter and attendance record that tuition-assistance programs ask for.

| 3–5 people from one employer, same section | $653 (10% off) |
| 6 or more people from one employer | $616 (15% off) |

Employers with fewer than 250 workers in Porter County and the five neighboring counties may qualify for a Valley Workforce Board incumbent-worker grant that covers up to half the fee. We will help with the paperwork. Register online or by phone. The full policy on cancellations, substitutions and weather is on the Professional Education page.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This course, its dates, fees, CEUs, instructors and the Valley Workforce Board grant are invented; there is nothing to register for and no certificate to earn. Wendell Strand and the hazard walks are invented. Nothing here is a federal training card or safety advice; real workplaces need real, authorized training.
