What the button does
One click removes the message from your mailbox and forwards it to the security team, who check whether it hit other people and, if it's a real campaign, block the sender and claw the message back from every inbox it reached. You don't need to be sure — a wrong guess costs nothing.
The scams that target students
A too-good campus job that wants your bank details or asks you to deposit a check; a login page that looks like the Porter sign-in but isn't; an urgent message “from” a professor or dean asking you to buy gift cards. Real university business never works that way.

The practical details
Where: A “Report phishing” button in the mail toolbar on web and desktop. After you click: The message is pulled from your inbox and sent to security for analysis; similar messages are hunted across all mailboxes. Common campus scams: Fake job offers, a “your account will be closed” login page, a spoofed message from a professor asking for gift cards. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
