Why it's separate
You can be in good academic standing with the university and still lose aid eligibility — SAP counts every attempted credit, including withdrawals, repeats, and transfer credits, against your pace and your maximum timeframe. Financial Aid runs this check; the Registrar runs academic standing.
Getting aid back
A failed SAP check means a warning term with aid intact, then suspension of aid. You can appeal with documentation of what interfered — illness, a death, a change of program — plus an academic plan signed by your advisor. Approved appeals put you on a plan the office monitors each term.
