Staff Holiday Calendar
University offices close on a state-employee holiday schedule that does not always line up with the academic calendar — the library and dining hall keep their own hours regardless.
Why this is a separate calendar
The academic calendar tracks instructional days, breaks, and registration deadlines for students; the staff holiday calendar tracks which days administrative offices (registrar, bursar, financial aid, human resources) are actually closed, set by the state of Wesconsin’s legal holiday schedule for its employees. The two overlap for winter break and a handful of others, but not entirely — classes can be in session on a day payroll and the registrar are closed, and vice versa.
The standard holidays

Services that stay open anyway
Halvorsen Library, the residence halls, and dining venues run their own holiday hours independent of the administrative closure schedule — a student living on campus over a holiday weekend is never without a place to eat or study, even when every administrative office is dark.
If you need an office on a closed day
Most routine transactions (payment, registration, forms) can be completed online through the student or employee portal regardless of office hours; anything that genuinely requires a person gets picked back up the next business day, and deadlines that fall on a closure day are automatically extended to the next open one.
