What qualifies
The fund covers costs that could otherwise force a student to leave Porter mid-term: a security deposit after a housing emergency, a car repair needed to reach a required clinical placement, a utility shutoff notice, an unexpected medical copay. It is not intended for tuition, which routes through financial aid instead.
How to ask
A short application through the Student Success Center is reviewed within a few business days, usually by a single staff member rather than a committee, specifically so a student in crisis is not made to wait on a meeting schedule. No documentation is required to start the conversation.
Where the money comes from
The fund is supported by the Foundation’s student-access priority and by a small annual allocation from student fees; it runs out most years before the end of spring term, at which point staff shift to emergency referrals — the campus food pantry, the county emergency-assistance office — instead.
The practical details
Typical grant: $150–$750, one-time. Turnaround: Usually within 3 business days. Repayment: None; this is a grant, not a loan. These specifics can change from year to year, so confirm anything time-sensitive directly with the office below before you rely on it.
If you have a question
This is handled by Student Success Center (Halvorsen Library, Level 1). Call (715) 555–0170 or email success@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
