Using the clinic
Student Health is in the Health & Counseling Center on North Campus. Book through MyPorter or call (715) 555–0236; a block of same-day appointments opens each morning for urgent needs, and there is a nurse line for "do I need to be seen" questions. Bring your Porter Card and your insurance card to the first visit. Any enrolled student can use the clinic — it is funded by the student health fee whether or not you carry the university insurance plan.
A secure patient portal handles messaging your provider, viewing results, requesting refills, and downloading the immunization record you will need for some jobs, clinical placements, and study abroad.
What they treat and provide
Evaluation and treatment of acute illness and minor injury, management of ongoing conditions like asthma or a thyroid disorder while you are at school, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, contraception including long-acting methods, emergency contraception, immunizations and travel vaccines, TB testing, common lab work drawn on site, a limited in-house pharmacy for frequently prescribed medications, and referrals to Porter Falls specialists when something is outside a campus clinic's scope. Sports physicals and some allergy injections (with a plan from your allergist) are available too.
Care is confidential. For students 18 and older, records are not shared with parents or the university without written permission, except where safety law requires it.
Costs and insurance
The office visit itself is covered by the health fee. Things that cost extra: lab tests sent to an outside lab, medications, vaccines, procedures, and any specialist you are referred to. The clinic bills most major insurance for those; bring your card so charges do not fall to your student account at full price. If you are uninsured or underinsured, ask — there is a sliding scale for some services and staff can help you look at the university plan or the state marketplace.
Student Health does not bill for a missed appointment the first time, but repeated no-shows can affect same-day access. Cancel through the portal if you can.
Immunization requirement
Wesconsin and Porter require proof of certain immunizations (and a meningococcal decision on file for students in university housing) before your first term. Submit the record through the patient portal well before move-in — an unmet requirement places a hold that blocks registration for your second term. Medical and personal exemptions exist and are handled through the clinic.
