Numbers below 300 are introductory, 300–499 advanced undergraduate, and 500 and above graduate. Prerequisites are enforced at registration.

Of the 9 CE courses listed, 2 are introductory (numbers under 300), 2 are advanced undergraduate (300–499). 0 courses have no prerequisite and are a reasonable first step. Later courses assume the earlier ones, so read prerequisites before you plan a term — they are enforced at registration and an override from the Civil Engineering department is the only way around them.
CE 2100 — Statics 3 cr
Equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies, trusses and frames, friction, centroids, and moments of inertia.
Prerequisite: MATH 2400, PHYS 2010.
CE 2300 — Surveying 3 cr
Distance, angle, and elevation measurement; traverse computation; leveling; GPS; and producing a site map, with fieldwork.
Prerequisite: MATH 1600.
CE 2500 — Mechanics of Materials 3 cr
Axial, torsional, and bending stress and strain; deflection; combined loading; and column buckling.
Prerequisite: CE 2100.
CE 3100 — Structural Analysis 3 cr
Determinate and indeterminate beams, frames, and trusses; influence lines; and the stiffness method.
Prerequisite: CE 2500.
CE 3300 — Geotechnical Engineering 4 cr
Soil classification, compaction, seepage, consolidation, shear strength, and shallow foundation design, with lab testing.
Prerequisite: CE 2500.
CE 3500 — Hydraulics and Hydrology 3 cr
Open-channel and pipe flow, pumps, the hydrologic cycle, rainfall–runoff, and stormwater design.
Prerequisite: CE 2100.
CE 3700 — Transportation Engineering 3 cr
Traffic flow, geometric design of roads, pavement, and an introduction to planning and safety analysis.
Prerequisite: CE 2300.
CE 3900 — Reinforced Concrete Design 3 cr
Behavior and design of beams, slabs, and columns under current code, including detailing.
Prerequisite: CE 3100.
CE 4900 — Senior Design 3 cr
A multidisciplinary team develops a civil project from site data through a code-compliant design and drawings for a client.
Prerequisite: senior standing.
