About Engineering Technology
Applied engineering — hands-on design, testing, and production support. Courses carry the ENGT subject code and are offered through the College of Engineering & Technology. Numbers below 300 are introductory, 300–499 advanced undergraduate, and 500 and above graduate. Prerequisites are enforced at registration.
How the sequence works
Of the 9 ENGT courses listed, 3 are introductory (numbers under 300), 1 is advanced undergraduate (300–499). 1 course has no prerequisite and is a reasonable first step. Later courses assume the earlier ones, so read prerequisites before you plan a term — they are enforced at registration and an override from the Engineering Technology department is the only way around them.
ENGT 1100 — Technical Drawing and CAD 3 cr
Orthographic and isometric projection, dimensioning and tolerancing, and parametric modeling.
Prerequisite: none.
ENGT 1500 — Circuits and Instrumentation 4 cr
DC and AC circuits at an applied level, sensors, data acquisition, and making a reliable measurement.
Prerequisite: MATH 1400.
ENGT 2100 — Applied Mechanics 3 cr
Statics and strength of materials for technologists, with an emphasis on analysis you can do on the shop floor.
Prerequisite: MATH 1600.
ENGT 2500 — Manufacturing Technology 3 cr
Machining, fabrication, and additive processes; fixturing; and producing parts to a drawing.
Prerequisite: ENGT 1100.
ENGT 3100 — Fluid Power 3 cr
Hydraulic and pneumatic components, circuits, symbols, and troubleshooting a system.
Prerequisite: ENGT 1500.
ENGT 3300 — Programmable Logic Controllers 4 cr
Ladder logic, I/O wiring, human–machine interfaces, and programming a control task on real hardware.
Prerequisite: ENGT 1500.
ENGT 3500 — Quality and Metrology 3 cr
Measurement systems, gauging, statistical process control, and inspection planning.
Prerequisite: MATH 1600.
ENGT 3700 — Project Management for Technology 3 cr
Planning and running a technical project: scope, schedule, budget, and communication.
Prerequisite: junior standing.
ENGT 4900 — Technology Capstone 3 cr
A team solves an applied engineering problem for an industry sponsor and demonstrates the result.
Prerequisite: senior standing.
