About Environmental Engineering
Engineering clean water, clean air, and sound waste management. Courses carry the ENVE subject code and are offered through the College of Engineering & Technology. Numbers below 300 are introductory, 300–499 advanced undergraduate, and 500 and above graduate. Prerequisites are enforced at registration.
How the sequence works
Of the 8 ENVE courses listed, 2 are introductory (numbers under 300), 1 is advanced undergraduate (300–499). 0 courses have no prerequisite and are a reasonable first step. Later courses assume the earlier ones, so read prerequisites before you plan a term — they are enforced at registration and an override from the Environmental Engineering department is the only way around them.
ENVE 2000 — Introduction to Environmental Engineering 3 cr
Mass balances, reactor concepts, and the major environmental engineering problems.
Prerequisite: CHEM 1050, MATH 2400.
ENVE 2500 — Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology 4 cr
Aquatic chemistry, equilibrium and kinetics, and the microbiology of treatment, with lab.
Prerequisite: ENVE 2000.
ENVE 3100 — Water and Wastewater Treatment 4 cr
Unit processes for drinking-water and wastewater treatment and their design, with lab.
Prerequisite: ENVE 2500.
ENVE 3300 — Air Pollution Engineering 3 cr
Sources, dispersion, control technologies, and regulations for air emissions.
Prerequisite: ENVE 2000, ME 2600.
ENVE 3500 — Solid and Hazardous Waste Management 3 cr
Waste characterization, landfills, resource recovery, and site remediation.
Prerequisite: ENVE 2000.
ENVE 3700 — Hydrology and Hydraulic Design 3 cr
Watershed hydrology, open-channel flow, and the design of stormwater and conveyance systems.
Prerequisite: CE 2100.
ENVE 4100 — Environmental Systems Modeling 3 cr
Modeling fate and transport of contaminants in water, air, and soil.
Prerequisite: ENVE 3100.
ENVE 4900 — Environmental Senior Design 3 cr
A team develops a treatment or remediation design for a real client to regulatory standards.
Prerequisite: senior standing.
