About Rehabilitation & Disability Services
Supporting people with disabilities toward their goals. Courses carry the REHB subject code and are offered through the College of Education, Health & Human Sciences. Numbers below 300 are introductory, 300–499 advanced undergraduate, and 500 and above graduate. Prerequisites are enforced at registration.
How the sequence works
Of the 9 REHB courses listed, 3 are introductory (numbers under 300), 1 is advanced undergraduate (300–499). 1 course has no prerequisite and is a reasonable first step. Later courses assume the earlier ones, so read prerequisites before you plan a term — they are enforced at registration and an override from the Rehabilitation & Disability Services department is the only way around them.
REHB 1500 — Introduction to Disability Studies 3 cr
Models of disability, history, law, language, and disability as identity and culture.
Prerequisite: none.
REHB 2100 — Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Disability 3 cr
Common conditions and their functional impact, and the psychological and social experience of disability.
Prerequisite: REHB 1500.
REHB 2500 — Helping Relationships and Interviewing 3 cr
Core counseling skills, the working alliance, and structuring a helping conversation, practiced in role-play.
Prerequisite: REHB 1500.
REHB 3100 — Case Management 3 cr
Assessment, planning, coordination, documentation, and advocacy across service systems.
Prerequisite: REHB 2500.
REHB 3300 — Vocational Development and Placement 3 cr
Career assessment, job development, workplace accommodations, and supported employment.
Prerequisite: REHB 2100.
REHB 3500 — Assistive Technology 3 cr
Matching devices and services to needs across mobility, communication, and daily living.
Prerequisite: REHB 2100.
REHB 3700 — Substance Use and Co-occurring Conditions 3 cr
Screening, brief intervention, referral, and recovery support.
Prerequisite: REHB 2500.
REHB 4100 — Ethics and Professional Practice 3 cr
Codes of ethics, boundaries, confidentiality, cultural humility, and self-care.
Prerequisite: junior standing.
REHB 4900 — Practicum in Rehabilitation Services 4 cr
A supervised placement in a community agency, with a weekly seminar.
Prerequisite: senior standing.
