First-year transition, exploratory advising, and academic skills. Courses carry the UNIV subject code and are offered through the College of Education, Health & Human Sciences. Numbers below 300 are introductory, 300–499 advanced undergraduate, and 500 and above graduate. Prerequisites are enforced at registration.
How the sequence works
Of the 7 UNIV courses listed, 3 are introductory (numbers under 300), 1 is advanced undergraduate (300–499). 4 courses have no prerequisite and are a reasonable first step. Later courses assume the earlier ones, so read prerequisites before you plan a term — they are enforced at registration and an override from the University Studies department is the only way around them.
UNIV 1000 — First-Year Seminar 1 cr
Belonging, campus resources, financial wellness, major and career exploration, and a graduation plan.
Prerequisite: none.
UNIV 1100 — College Reading and Study Strategies 3 cr
Reading complex texts, note-taking, memory, and exam preparation, applied to your current courses.
Prerequisite: none.
UNIV 1200 — Career and Major Exploration 2 cr
Self-assessment, researching majors and occupations, informational interviews, and a decision plan.
Prerequisite: none.
UNIV 1300 — Academic Recovery Seminar 2 cr
Diagnosing what went wrong, rebuilding habits and systems, and a term-by-term plan back to good standing.
Prerequisite: academic probation.
UNIV 2000 — Transfer Transition Seminar 1 cr
Navigating a new campus, using the degree audit, and connecting quickly as a transfer student.
Prerequisite: transfer standing.
UNIV 2100 — Peer Leadership Practicum 2 cr
Training and supervised practice as an orientation leader, tutor, or first-year mentor.
Prerequisite: instructor consent.
UNIV 2500 — Learning and Motivation 3 cr
Evidence on how people learn — retrieval, spacing, mindset, goal setting — applied to your own studying.
Prerequisite: none.
