The Porter Card: everything it does

Your ID is also your key, your meal plan, your library card, and a debit account. Here is the full list.

Home / The Porter Card: everything it does

It is your identity on campus

The Porter Card is your official university ID — carry it. You show it for exams, at the health center, to check out equipment, to vote in student elections, and any time an office needs to verify who you are. A lost card is deactivated and replaced at the campus card office for a fee; report it fast so no one else uses the balances on it.

Building and door access

The card opens the doors you are authorized for: your residence hall 24 hours, academic buildings during open hours, labs and shops you have been checked off for, the Forge Recreation Center, and reserved spaces. Access is tied to your enrollment and your trainings — finish a shop safety course and the card starts opening that shop.

Dining

If you have a meal plan, the card carries your weekly Dining Credits for the residential halls and your Campus Cash balance, which works like a debit account at every dining location, café, market, and vending machine on campus. Balances and transaction history are in MyPorter.

The Porter Card debit account

Beyond dining, you can add your own money to a Porter Card account and spend it at the campus store, print and copy stations, laundry, some vending, and a handful of off-campus partners near campus. It is a convenience, not a bank account — no overdraft, and you withdraw a leftover balance when you graduate.

Library and printing

The card is your library card for the Halvorsen Library and interlibrary loan, and it is how you release print jobs at the campus printers and pay for copies and poster printing.

Mobile credential

Most of the door-access and payment functions are also available as a mobile credential on your phone through the MyPorter app, so you are not locked out if the physical card is in your other coat. Set it up early; adding it after a lockout at 11 p.m. is harder.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
