Veteran education benefits

The campus certifying official and the practical steps for using GI Bill and state veteran benefits at Porter.

Home / Veteran education benefits

Each term

Enrollment has to be certified to the VA every term before benefits pay, and again if you add or drop a course, because a change in credit load changes the housing allowance and tuition payment. Submit your schedule to the certifying official as soon as you register. Only courses that count toward your declared degree can be certified.

The money timing

Tuition payments from the VA can arrive after the bill's due date; Porter holds veteran accounts without a late penalty while a certified benefit is pending. The monthly housing allowance is paid in arrears and is prorated for the first and last months, so budget for a thin first few weeks each term. State benefits and the federal GI Bill have separate paperwork; the certifying official handles both.

In and around Porter Falls

The Porter Student Help Desk in Founders Union 118 is the single place to start when it is not obvious which office owns a question.

The practical details

Office: School Certifying Official, Registrar's area. Bring: Your Certificate of Eligibility (or state equivalent) and your class schedule each term. Watch: Benefits pay on their own schedule — plan for a gap at the start of a term. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.

If you have a question

The office behind this is Porter Student Help Desk (Founders Union, Room 118). Call (715) 555–0120 or email help@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
