Military & veteran services

Benefits certification, credit for military training, priority registration, and a community for veterans, service members, and military families.

Home / Military & veteran services

Start here

Visit the veterans and military services office before your first term. The School Certifying Official helps you understand which education benefit you are using and what it covers, submits the enrollment certification to the benefits agency each term, and connects you to everything else. Your benefit does not pay automatically — certification depends on you submitting your request and keeping your schedule stable, and a schedule change after certification can create a debt you owe back, so tell the office first.

Credit for what you have done

Your Joint Services Transcript (or Community College of the Air Force transcript) documents training and occupational experience the Registrar evaluates for credit against recognized guidelines — often covering physical-education, elective, and some technical or general-education requirements and shortening your degree. Request the evaluation early. See transfer credit and the student veterans guide.

The support built for you

Priority or early registration so benefit certification is not held up by a bad schedule; a veterans lounge and resource center with study space and computers; a Student Veterans Organization; peer mentoring; visiting county and federal benefits representatives; and staff and counselors experienced with the transition from a highly structured environment to a self-directed one. Coordinate any service-connected disability accommodation through the accessibility office.

Deployment, activation, and problems

Students called to service get coordinated support for withdrawal, tuition adjustment, housing, and return to study — contact the office as soon as you have orders. For a benefit payment or eligibility issue, talk to the certifying official first; most are timing or paperwork and they can fix them or route you. Do not let a hold or a balance sit while you wait for a benefit to post.

National resources

VA education benefits (check your remaining entitlement and status), the GI Bill Comparison Tool, and the Veterans Crisis Line — dial 988 then press 1, or text 838255.
