Porter competes in the Wesconsin Collegiate Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division III level — no athletic scholarships, and a compliance office that means it.
Division III, on purpose
Porter competes at the NCAA Division III level, the tier built around the idea that athletics is one part of a student’s education, not a job. Division III schools do not award athletic scholarships; a roster spot never changes a student’s financial aid package. Athletes are recruited on fit and ability, but they pay for Porter — or qualify for aid — the same way every other student does.
The conference
Porter is a member of the Wesconsin Collegiate Athletic Conference alongside eight other Wesconsin comprehensive universities. The conference sets a shared competition schedule, officiating standards, and sportsmanship expectations, and it is where most Ironclads rivalries live — conference standings, not national rankings, are what shows up on the locker-room whiteboard most weeks.
What the compliance office actually checks
Compliance is unglamorous by design: verifying that every competing athlete is enrolled full-time and meeting the same academic-progress standard as any other student, that practice hours stay inside NCAA limits, that recruiting contact rules are followed, and that no one on a team roster receives anything an ordinary student did not have equal access to. Self-reporting a minor violation is the expected and unremarkable response when one turns up — the compliance office would rather log a small correction than have a bigger one surface at the conference or NCAA level later.
If something looks off
Student-athletes, coaches or fans who think a recruiting or eligibility rule was not followed can raise it directly with the athletics compliance coordinator, in Fieldhouse 118, without going through a coach first.
