What is available and where

Two desks lend gear. The library tech desk handles the general pool: loaner laptops and chargers, webcams and ring lights, USB microphones, headsets, basic camcorders and tripods, presentation clickers and adapters (HDMI, USB-C, the dongle you forgot), graphing and financial calculators, portable projectors, and assistive technology (screen readers on a stick, digital recorders, FM listening systems, adjustable input devices). The media production center in the Applied Arts Building lends the serious kit: DSLR and mirrorless bodies and lenses, cinema cameras, lighting kits, field audio recorders and boom setups, gimbals and sliders, green screens, and podcast-room time. Some program labs also lend discipline-specific instruments to enrolled students.

A short online orientation or a quick desk walkthrough unlocks the higher-value production gear the first time.

Loan periods and reservations

Everyday accessories and calculators circulate for about a week with renewals if no one is waiting; loaner laptops are shorter (a few days) and meant as a stopgap while yours is repaired, not a substitute for owning one. Production kits go out for 24 to 72 hours because demand is high and every class has the same project due the same week — reserve those days or weeks ahead through the booking system, and pick up and return on time to the minute, because the next person's assignment depends on it. Semester-long loans exist for documented accessibility needs, arranged through the accessibility office.

Your responsibility for it

Check every item against the packing list at the counter and flag any existing damage then — once it is signed out, it is on you. Keep it dry, cool, and with you (a camera bag left in a car or a library carrel is how most losses happen), do not attempt repairs or swap parts, and bring back every cable, battery, cap, and case. Late returns accrue a per-day fee and then a replacement charge to your student account; damage or loss is billed at repair or replacement cost, and an unresolved balance places a hold that blocks registration and transcripts. Report a fault or an accident immediately and honestly — the outcome is almost always better than hiding it.
