About the event
Chamber music is the small-group side of Porter’s ensembles: two to eight players, one on a part, and no conductor. This fall there are eleven groups and 46 players. They formed in the first two weeks of term, have rehearsed on their own ever since, and get a 50-minute coaching session each week. This is their first public outing.
The recital is played in the Furlong Gallery among the objects in Load Bearing, the faculty exhibition. Priya Winslow, who coordinates the program, chose groups and repertoire with the room in mind: a string quartet, a woodwind quintet, a guitar duo, a vocal trio and a brass quintet. The brass quintet is placed farthest from the stoneware. The six-player percussion ensemble does not play in the gallery, for reasons the stoneware would understand.

Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This recital, its groups and its careful seating plan are invented; there is no concert in any gallery on November 15.
