About the event
The Lantern Brass Quintet is a touring group of two trumpets, a horn, a trombone and a tuba. It is one of two visiting artists on the 2026–27 season. Its program mixes Renaissance dances arranged for brass, a contemporary suite written for the quintet, and a closing set of marches and rags that nobody in the audience will be able to sit still through. Between pieces the players explain what they are doing, including why the tuba player brought two tubas.
Both visiting artists also teach. In the afternoon the quintet works with the Wind Symphony brass on breathing, blend and how five people stay together without a conductor. The session is open to students from any ensemble, and listeners are welcome too.

Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. The Lantern Brass Quintet, its program and its masterclass are invented; there is no such ensemble and no concert to attend.
