Military-connected students

You are a veteran, an active-duty or reserve service member, or a military family member using education benefits.

1. Start with veterans services

The campus veterans and military services office certifies your enrollment for benefits each term, helps you understand which benefit you are using and what it covers, and connects you to everything else. Go before your first term.

2. Get military credit evaluated

Your Joint Services Transcript documents training and experience the Registrar evaluates for credit — often covering physical-education, elective, and some technical requirements, and shortening the degree. Request it early.

3. Use the support built for you

Priority registration so benefit certification is not held up, a veterans lounge, a student veterans organization, peer mentoring, and staff and counselors who understand the transition. Coordinate any service-connected disability accommodation through the accessibility office.

Common questions

Does my benefit pay tuition directly?
It depends on the benefit and requires the school to certify your enrollment each term. A schedule change after certification can create a debt you owe back — tell the office first.

I was deployed mid-semester. Now what?
Students called to service get coordinated support for withdrawal, tuition adjustment, housing, and return to study. Contact veterans services as soon as you have orders.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. The offices, steps, dates, and contacts described here are invented; nothing on this page is a real process you can complete.
