Transfer students

You have college credit already — from a two-year college, another university, the military, or exams — and you want it to count.

1. Check how your credit transfers

Use the transfer-course guide to see how specific courses have been evaluated. A completed transfer-oriented associate degree can satisfy most or all of Porter's general-education core, and a statewide agreement moves gen-ed as a block from Wesconsin two-year colleges.

2. Apply as a transfer

Send official transcripts from every college attended. Transfer applicants are reviewed on college coursework more than high-school record. Deadlines are more flexible than for first-year students, but earlier is better for housing and registration.

3. Get your evaluation and meet an adviser

After admission the Registrar evaluates every course as a direct equivalent, elective credit, or no credit. Meet a transfer adviser before registering so approved credit lands where it should — and appeal any course you think matches a specific requirement, with the syllabus.

4. Plan the finish

Ask exactly how many Porter credits (and Porter credits in the major) you still need — there is always a residency minimum. Your adviser maps the shortest path, including whether a co-op term fits.

Common questions

Will all my credits transfer?
Courses from regionally accredited schools with a grade of C-minus or better generally transfer; developmental courses and D grades generally do not. Upper-division major courses often need a department review.

Can I transfer in the spring?
Yes. Most programs admit transfer students in fall and spring; a few cohort programs admit once a year.
