HVAC/R Technician (Second Shift)

A full-time, second-shift facilities position maintaining heating, cooling, refrigeration, and building-automation systems across all 14 campus buildings.

Home / About / Work at Porter / HVAC/R Technician

About the position

Facilities Management keeps an 86-acre campus with 14 buildings running, from the 1912 steam radiators in Founders Hall to the chilled-water plant serving the Jarvis Technology Center’s server rooms. The second-shift HVAC/R technician is the trades person on duty when the day crew goes home: answering evening comfort calls, nursing the Health Sciences Center’s pressure-controlled rooms, and making sure the walk-in coolers in The Forge dining hall are holding temperature before the overnight custodial crew arrives.

The mechanical trades team is seven technicians and a lead; the trades supervisor works a split schedule to overlap with second shift two days a week.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This job posting is invented: there is no HVAC/R position, shift differential, salary, or search committee, Gary Ostlie does not exist, and applications sent anywhere go nowhere.
