The Pride Center
The Pride Center is a staffed space — a lounge, a small library, meeting rooms, free supplies — that functions as the community hub: drop-in hours, peer mentoring that pairs new students with experienced ones, discussion and support groups (coming out, trans and nonbinary students, questioning, LGBTQIA+ students of color, aromantic/asexual), and advising for the related student organizations. It also runs the campus-wide education program (Safe Zone-style training for faculty, staff, and students) and a response function for when something goes wrong in a class, a residence hall, a team, or a job. You do not have to be "out," certain, or labeled anything to use it.
Affirmed name and gender in campus systems
You can set an affirmed (chosen) name that displays on class rosters, the learning platform, your email display, the campus directory, and your Campus Card without a legal name change — one form, processed by the registrar, and the Pride Center will walk you through it and follow up on the systems that lag. A legal name or gender-marker change, once you have the court order or updated documents, updates your official record, transcript, and financial-aid file; the center keeps a current guide to the Wesconsin process and can connect you with student legal services. Gender-marker options in university records include nonbinary where systems allow it, and you control who sees what.
Housing, facilities and health
Gender-inclusive housing — where room assignments are made without regard to the gender on file, and roommates of any gender can live together by mutual request — is an option on the housing application, and the accessibility and housing offices handle single-room and single-bathroom accommodations. All-gender restrooms are mapped across campus, including in every academic building. The student health center provides gender-affirming care including hormone therapy initiation and continuation under an informed-consent model, and the counseling center has clinicians experienced with LGBTQIA+ students; both are prepaid through fees.
