Faculty Win Grants to Redesign Courses Around — Not Against — Generative AI
Eighteen instructors received course-redesign stipends to build assignments that assume students have AI tools and teach them to use the tools well.
The Center for Teaching has awarded course-redesign stipends to eighteen faculty across every college to rebuild a course on the assumption that students have access to generative AI. The redesigns vary widely: a history course where students critique AI-generated historical narratives against primary sources; a coding course where AI writes a first draft and students must find and explain its bugs; a nursing course where students evaluate AI-suggested care plans against clinical judgment.
The common thread is that the AI is in the room and the assignment is built around using it critically rather than pretending it does not exist or trying to police it. Faculty share their redesigned assignments and what worked in a public repository.

A second round of grants opens in the spring, prioritizing large first- and second-year courses.
