Applied Mathematics Adds an Actuarial Science Concentration
A new track aligns coursework with the first several professional actuarial exams and adds a required internship.
The applied mathematics program has added an actuarial science concentration for fall 2026. The track sequences probability, statistics, financial mathematics, and economics courses to prepare students for the first two or three professional actuarial exams before graduation, and requires a summer internship at an insurer or consulting firm.
The department has arranged for on-campus exam sittings and a study-group course that meets in the weeks before each exam date. A regional insurance company has committed to interviewing every student in the concentration for its internship program.

The concentration is capped initially at twenty students a year while the department builds out exam-prep support.
