Career Fair Draws Record 140 Employers

The largest fall Career Fair in the event's history, and a line for Nursing and Cybersecurity graduates that formed forty minutes before the doors opened.

140 employers set up tables at the Ironclad Fieldhouse on Wednesday, the largest fall Career Fair in the event's fifteen-year history and twenty-two more than last year's record. Career Services Director Jolene Brandvold said her office stopped taking registrations two weeks early after running out of floor space.

Recruiters were chasing a narrow list of skills this year: nursing licensure candidates, cybersecurity analysts, manufacturing and controls engineers, and supply chain analysts topped nearly every recruiter's list. The line for Nursing seniors formed forty minutes before the doors opened and did not shorten until early afternoon.

“We used to have to explain what a polytechnic was,” Brandvold said. “Now employers ask for us by name.”

Ninety-four percent of UW–Porter Falls graduates report being employed or in graduate school within six months of finishing their degree, a figure Career Services has tracked and published since 2015.
