First-Generation Student Center Marks 500th Student Served
The center, open since 2021, celebrated a milestone that its director says undercounts its real reach.
The First-Generation Student Center marked its 500th student served since opening in 2021, a milestone staff say undercounts the center's actual reach because it only counts students formally enrolled in its mentoring program, not the larger number who use its drop-in advising and textbook lending library.
About 28 percent of UW–Porter Falls' incoming class each fall identifies as first-generation college students. The center pairs each with a peer mentor and a faculty or staff mentor during their first year.
